The story behind the design

Australia does not fit inside one reef.

The Great Barrier Reef may be Australia's best-known underwater name, but it is only one part of a continent of diving. Tropical reefs, open ocean and the cooler southern coastline each reveal something different.

The manta's broad, symmetrical form became a natural canvas. One wing carries Queensland's coral and turtles. The other looks towards Ningaloo, with whale sharks and schooling fish. A seahorse quietly brings the south into the story.

Ochre, sand and dry coastal landscapes connect the ocean back to the continent: red earth, immense distance and the journey between remarkable places.

Australia's reefs have faced real decline, but they are not an obituary. Recovery is visible in places, even as the wider system remains vulnerable and changing.

One manta. A continent of diving. Still not enough room.
